Louisiana Lawnmower Racing Association

In case you haven't seen or heard, organized lawnmower racing is alive and well, especially in Louisiana!

Ya' know, down here, if it burns fuel and is on wheels, we'll race it!

The Louisiana Lawnmower Racing Association (LLMRA) recently held a race in Ruston, Louisiana for the first time, at the North Louisiana Exhibition Center.   These mowers won't cut grass anymore, but they will throw a rooster tail and cut some quick lap times!  The rules allow the substitution of stock mower stuff with go-kart steering components and brakes for safety, but the rest of it has to be originally from a mower.   There are classes for single cylinder and twins, and flathead or overhead-valve classes as well.  There are several age groups to compete in, including a class for kids, ages 8-14.  If you are interested in building and racing a mower, the rules are available on request.

Founded and run by Jerry 'Cornflakes' Martin from Winfield, Louisiana, the LLMRA puts on regularly scheduled races, with crowd attendance in the hundreds at their local arena!  My buddy Billy Lewis is the diligent flag man who does a marvelous job, and who every racer looks up to!

I managed to get a few decent shots that night at the Ruston races, and I will post a link to the LLMRA web site.

These are fast mowers and the drivers are serious about racing!

The tow mower has a 500cc Honda bike motor and was built by Jerry 'Cornflakes' Martin!  Painted on the side is... 'You might be a REDNECK IF... Your mower will outrun your pickup!'  The mower was also signed by Jeff Foxworthy, while he was in Bastrop!
